Bird / nature watching
If you fancy yourself as a bit of an ornithologist then welcome to paradise! With such a diverse marine habitat fringing untouched bush wilderness, it's no surprise that the level and variety of birdlife at Eco Beach is quite outstanding. The retreat is located just 20km from the Ramsar marine wetlands conservation area which underlines the importance of the area as a habitat for birds. To list all the species seen around the retreat would require a book in itself but here's just a brief snapshot of some of the feathered friends you can expect to see during your stay: babblers, honey-eaters, bee-eaters, dollarbirds, shrikes, fairy wrens, finches, parrots, kestrels, sea eagles, ospreys, oyster catchers, plovers, curlews, boobies, terns, frigate birds and seagulls. You can see this amazing array of local bird species from our specially designed bird hide. View our Eco Beach bird list.
Agile wallabies are numerous around the retreat as are lizards such as sand goannas, frill necked lizards, blue tongues and many other species. If you are very lucky, you may catch a glimpse of the elusive bilby. These nocturnal burrowing marsupials have become increasingly rare in recent years but have been sighted around the retreat. Please report any sightings to staff.

Often in life it's the simplest of things that afford the greatest of pleasures. Join in with the great Aussie tradition of sundowner drinks on the beach. Grab a beach chair and one of our special sundowner packs and enjoy an ice cold beer or wine with nibbles and mull over the day's events under a setting sun.
