history
On the 19th April 2000, the most powerful cyclone ever to hit the Australian coast gripped the attention of the nation.
Category 5 Tropical Cyclone Rosita had narrowly missed the historic pearling town of Broome but was rapidly heading across Roebuck Bay towards landfall. Directly in its path lay the beautiful, international award winning eco resort, Eco Beach.
In the aftermath, just 14 out of the 41 wooden huts at Eco Beach stood intact whilst the reception area, open air conference centre and much loved Jack's Bar lay in pieces.
The Restoration
In the years following Rosita, Eco Beach owners Karl Plunkett and Natalie Kimpton set about an ambitious plan to rebuild the internationally award winning retreat, only this time bigger and better.
With the help of renowned Perth architect Paul Meschiati, the new retreat adopts the latest in environmentally friendly construction techniques and operational practices, positioning Eco Beach to set a new benchmark in ecologically sustainable tourism.
After opening in July 2009, Eco Beach has once again become one of the finest retreats in Australia; a monument to human spirit and achievement in the face of overwhelming odds.
Eco Beach
The new Eco Beach oozes comfort, class and perfectly balances the luxury and convenience of a beach resort with the simplicity and sophistication of a truly unique eco retreat.
- The 41 wooden huts have been replaced with 25 luxurious self-sustaining Eco Villas and 30 patented safari style Eco Tents.
- The open air conference centre has been transformed into a magnificent function and health suite which features some of the finest views you are likely to see on the west coast of Australia.
- Jack's Bar, now an awesome ocean front bar, restaurant and pool deck, offers spectacular views, gourmet cuisine and an extensive cocktail list
However, perhaps most importantly, it is the core principles that form the true foundations of Eco Beach which have thankfully remained unchanged. A stay at Eco Beach is about escape, relaxation, reflection, indulgence and getting the absolute best out of what this beautiful part of the world has to offer.
With such breathtaking landscapes and unique experiences, Eco Beach seduced all who had experienced the retreat in the past. Now, with world class facilities, accommodation and service Eco Beach looks set to capture hearts for many more years to come.
