Unique Environment Features & Ecologically Sustainable
Practices
| So, what makes Eco Beach an environmental award-winning destination? |
- Remote wilderness location with fifteen kilometres of private white
sand beach;
- Stunning, pristine natural coastal environment;
- Maximum population of 80-100 overnight guests
- Cabins are elevated to ensure minimal disturbance to landforms and
habitats whilst capitalising on visual cues;
- Sustainable building design to capitalise on natural elements eg.
wind and solar. All dwellings are open-air, so guests can revel in the
proximity to nature;
- Sustainable construction to suit a coastal destination - approximately
70% of Eco Beach is built from recycled materials;
- No conventional resort luxuries such as telephones, televisions or
bar fridges in the huts - a simple 'back to nature' experience
- Outdoor showers, so guests can shower under the stars
- Raised wooden boardwalks link the entire retreat, protecting the
natural environment and maintaining wildlife corridors;
- Unique waste management program. We have a worm farm, a large compost
bin and some staff members even recycle the office paper by making their
own paper! We also recycle all glass and cans;
- Use of citrus-based cleaning products and low phosphorus, biodegradable
soaps;
- Greywater from the showers and sinks is collected and treated independently
from toilet waste to minimise our black water problem;
- Composting toilet;
- Renewable energy through a solar inverter and batteries for night
time power use;
- Off-site parking area for guests to minimise environmental impact
and noise pollution;
- Nature-based, interpretive activities and information;
- Abundance of bird life and marine life;
- Significant Kimberley flora species - found in their southern most
habitats;
- Environmental consultant on call;
- Resident wildlife researcher;
- Refuge for orphaned and injured wildlife;
- Partnership with a local aboriginal Guide;
- Sound relationship with the Aboriginal custodians of the land surrounding
Eco Beach;
- Mutually beneficial relationship with Broome TAFE Tourism and Environmental
departments. Students collect native seeds from the retreat area and
replant eroded areas annually;
- Links with Australian university tourism and environmental departments
for students to undertake research and work experience.
